At Gunter Specialty, turning wrenches isn’t just a job—it’s a lifelong passion. For founder Jody Gunter, the journey began long before the business had a name. By the age of 12, Jody was reviving lawn mowers that others had written off. By 13, he was building a reputation in the Mustang racing world, known for his precision and relentless work ethic. At 15, he was already on the track in his 1966 Mustang Coupe—a car that set the tone for a lifetime of Ford performance and diesel expertise.

From Hobby to Full-Time Work

Jody’s path led him through Ford dealerships and countless hours in his own garage, but one thing always rang true: nothing was more satisfying than solving tough mechanical problems and getting vehicles back on the road stronger than before. In 2005, when side projects in his home garage turned into full-time demand, he knew it was time to build something bigger.

By Spring 2008, that vision became reality with the opening of Gunter Specialty, LLC—a 7,000 sq. ft. shop on Highway 6 in Valley Mills. What started with a handful of loyal customers has grown into a trusted name across Central Texas, fueled almost entirely by word-of-mouth referrals.

What We Do Today

Today, Gunter Specialty specializes in light-duty and medium-duty diesel trucks, offering complete bumper-to-bumper service. While we still work on gas vehicles, our passion and expertise lie in diesel engines and performance—delivering dependable repairs, upgrades, and maintenance that keep your truck running at its best.
